Sure, we might have had some subtle warnings before hand, because we needed to rearrange the way we wear our clothes, or maybe loosening that extra notch in our belt, or maybe it just seemed harder to bend over, either way we have gained the weight and now we want to take it off.

As far as I’m concerned there is no such thing as dieting, dieting and eating sensibly are two different things, so its better to train ourselves to eat right over time than try to lose a few pounds quickly. You can diet all you want, and most people within the first week or two end up cheating, gradually sliding back in to their rut, discretely acknowledging their defeat. Instead of dieting there are some supplements that can help reduce calories quicker.

Cholesterol has been a controversial topic for nearly two decades now and the debate shows no signs of winding down any time soon.  Even among medical practitioners, widely divergent opinions exist as to “good” and “bad” cholesterol, appropriate levels, effective measurement and whether cholesterol-lowering medications may, in fact, do more harm than good.

Millions of people take daily statin drugs like Lipitor to reduce cholesterol; only blood pressure medication is prescribed more frequently.

Interestingly, the plot of John Grisham’s recent best seller “The Litigators” revolves around a lawsuit against the manufacturers of a cholesterol reducing drug with supposedly lethal side effects.  While this particular story is fiction, the premise is completely plausible; there have been entirely too many real-life instances of drugs with sinister side effects and long-term consequences.

We’ve been indoctrinated with the belief that high cholesterol levels are dangerous to our health, and a significant risk factor for heart disease.  For decades now, the nutrition community has promoted a “low fat” diet and demonized eggs, dairy, red meat and other “artery clogging” fats.  Unfortunately, this has resulted in an increasing dependence on vegetable oils, high fructose corn syrup and processed grains; all of which are now proving to be unhealthy alternatives.  Ongoing studies are producing results which may refute previous assumptions of a link between saturated fats and heart disease.

Avoid These Foods and Be Healthier

Burger and FriesIn 2008 the world health organization estimated that 1.4 billion people suffered from obesity, these figures indicated that over 200 million men and over 300 million women were overweight. The average male should consume on average 2500 calories per day to maintain their weight,  for women it should be around 2000. Unfortunately today with fast food and an abundance of soft drinks this caloric intake can almost be achieved in one meal.

It’s not really hard to maintain a healthy weight simply by avoiding certain foods that can pack it on. We all know that diets don’t work, while in the short term you might lose weight, over the long term most people will put back on every pound they originally lost.  So the best practice is to eat healthy and stay away from certain foods.

Fast foods

Fast foods are the number one culprit of obesity, it’s not hard to understand why, A regular portion of fries from McDonalds contains 250 calories and a Big Mac has over 740 calories, add a 330 ml soft drink with 140 calories, you have just consumed almost half of you daily caloric intake. Some burgers such as Jack in the box bacon ultimate cheeseburger contain over 1000 calories, not to mention the hydrogenated oils as well as lots of sodium. Not good for those who want to maintain a healthy weight.
