Peanut Butter What You Should Know

Jar of Peanut ButterPeanut butter over the last few years has had a bad rap, some people have actually died because of allergic reactions to the stuff. Sure some people have succumbed from this delicious peanut paste, but have you ever looked into the positive nutrients natural peanut butter has.

You will definitely think twice about spreading the average store bought peanut butter on a piece of toast, pancake or whatever else you choose to top with this creamy spread.

Store bough peanut butter is generally loaded with sugar, hydrogenated oil, and sodium along with preservatives which are things your body does not need. There are some natural peanut butter brands that are a little bit better,  but many still contain sugars to make them taste better.

If you have never had real homemade peanut butter you have been missing out on nature’s great gift. Homemade peanut butter is not hard to make, it is just a matter of mildly roasting some fresh peanuts on a cookie sheet in your oven and blending it up in an old blender or food processor.  Fresh made peanut butter is very good for you.

To understand the goodness of tomatoes, we need to know that these fruits are endowed with four prime carotenoids. These are alpha carotene, beta carotene, lutein, and lycopene. While these individually are good for health, together they can provide great amount of nutrition. For instance, the redness of the fruit, which is one of the most attractive parts of the fruit in terms of looks, is due to a red pigment called lycopene. We are keen to take external antioxidants when this lycopene is one of the most powerful antioxidants which we get from tomatoes.

Zumba The Solution for Weight Loss

Women in Zumba ClassZumba is the new exercise craze. It is a Latin word that loosely translated means to move fast and have fun. It is an aerobic dance routine that most enjoy so much they forget they are exercising.

Some Zumba classes also incorporate small weights into the class, for a dance or two. These weights increase the calories burned but also tighten and tone muscles. On average a Zumba class burns between 600 and 800 calories. Of course working harder, burns more and being a sloth you would burn less.

An average Zumba class lasts approximately an hour from warm up to cool down. In that hour (depending on the instructor) you will try a little bit of plenty of Latin dances. You will get a taste of salsa, mambo, rumba, flamenco and sometimes some hip hop as well. Each of these dances is fast moving, forcing the body to burn calories. There will be periods of rest, and a chance to grab a drink of water, so be sure to bring a water bottle with you.

Fat Burners and Weight Loss

Woma pinching rolls of fatWeight loss is a number one goal for almost anyone at some point in their life, most of us do carry around extra pounds, but we either overlook them or just don’t care. By the time we are ready to do something about it, we have packed on far to many pounds than expected.

Sure, we might have had some subtle warnings before hand, because we needed to rearrange the way we wear our clothes, or maybe loosening that extra notch in our belt, or maybe it just seemed harder to bend over, either way we have gained the weight and now we want to take it off.

As far as I’m concerned there is no such thing as dieting, dieting and eating sensibly are two different things, so its better to train ourselves to eat right over time than try to lose a few pounds quickly. You can diet all you want, and most people within the first week or two end up cheating, gradually sliding back in to their rut, discretely acknowledging their defeat. Instead of dieting there are some supplements that can help reduce calories quicker.

Cholesterol Issue or Myth

Cholesterol has been a controversial topic for nearly two decades now and the debate shows no signs of winding down any time soon.  Even among medical practitioners, widely divergent opinions exist as to “good” and “bad” cholesterol, appropriate levels, effective measurement and whether cholesterol-lowering medications may, in fact, do more harm than good.

Cholesterol Issue or Myth

Millions of people take daily statin drugs like Lipitor to reduce cholesterol; only blood pressure medication is prescribed more frequently.

Interestingly, the plot of John Grisham’s recent best seller “The Litigators” revolves around a lawsuit against the manufacturers of a cholesterol reducing drug with supposedly lethal side effects.  While this particular story is fiction, the premise is completely plausible; there have been entirely too many real-life instances of drugs with sinister side effects and long-term consequences.

We’ve been indoctrinated with the belief that high cholesterol levels are dangerous to our health, and a significant risk factor for heart disease.  For decades now, the nutrition community has promoted a “low fat” diet and demonized eggs, dairy, red meat and other “artery clogging” fats.  Unfortunately, this has resulted in an increasing dependence on vegetable oils, high fructose corn syrup and processed grains; all of which are now proving to be unhealthy alternatives.  Ongoing studies are producing results which may refute previous assumptions of a link between saturated fats and heart disease.
